Iskin Daily Sunshield SPF 25

$

As far as UV protection is concerned, one of the best ways to keep yourself safe is by staying indoors, locked in a room with tinted UV-protective windows, curtains drawn for the rest of your life. However, we all know that this is not possible, especially during summer when Mother Nature forgets our sins and turn all sunny and pleasantly inviting.

In the past, it was believed that the best way to enjoy the outdoors safely is to wear a sunscreen that has sun protection factor (SPF). SPF tells us the comparison between the amount of time it takes for UVB rays to redden our skin when wearing a sunscreen and when exposed to the sun naked. However, since the discovery of the harmful effects of UVA, some experts suggest that SPF protection may not be enough. This is why dermatologists advise that, when looking for a sunscreen, people should opt for products that not only have an SPF of 15 or higher but also contain the phrases ‘broad spectrum protection’ or ‘UVA/UVB protection,’ like ISKIN’s Daily Sunshield SPF 25.

Using advanced micronized zinc oxide formulation to increase the skin’s tolerance to environmental factors, ISKIN’s Daily Sunshield SPF 25 prevents sun damage from happening by forming a thin barrier that prevents UVB and UVA rays from penetrating our skin. The advanced technology this product employs greatly reduces the possibility of nasty skin conditions like melasma, premature aging and cancers. Specially formulated for Asian skin, its light and easy-to-absorb consistency makes it ideal for daily use.

ISKIN New York is a U.S.-based skincare laboratory whose range of premium products cater mainly to the lifestyle needs of Asian men and women. The brand is famed for integrating cellular and nutritional sciences into the development of its products’ formulations– helping everyone achieve visible transformation; producing healthy and radiant skin regardless of age and skin type. In the Philippines, ISKIN New York is exclusively distributed by Flawless. For more information, you may visit http://www.flawless.com.ph/ or contact 584-6807.

Pain

Pain is believed to be an inevitable aspect of human lives. It is experienced by people in many different forms such as physical pain, social pain, emotional pain, psychological pain and spiritual pain.

Physical pain is probably the easiest to detect if one is ill. But physical pain due to underlying psychological and or emotional pain is a lot harder to cure.

Spiritual pain on the other hand is commonly associated with an individual’s personal relationship with (depending on which religion one is associated) the Creator, God, Allah.

Whatever kind of  pain you are in right now, remember...

Photo

Today is Good Friday, a time to commemorate Jesus Christ's pain as He gave up his life for our sins.

Twenty years ago, my mother passed away on a Good Friday.  Mama's physical pain was lifted but then we were left with emotional pain as Mama was our moving factor, our strength, our family's core and light.  Papa for the most part of our childhood was working abroad so we didn't develop a close relationship with him.  When Mama joined our Lord in 1993, my siblings and I started to be a lot closer to Papa. Though we experienced pain from losing our mother, we found strength and love through our father...

If you were born in the 70's you definitely know who Barry Manilow is. His songs are those songs that makes a young girl cry...sounds familiar?

Manilow Live was the concert he had in Las Vegas Hilton in December 2005.  This blu-ray disc is one great gift you can give to your parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents. as it brings back memories of songs such as Could It Be Magic?, Somewhere in the Night, Tryin' to Get the Feeling, Can't Smile Without You, Bandstand Boogie, Mandy, Even Now, Daybreak, Flight of the Bumblebee, All the Time, New York City Rhythm, Every Single Day, I am Your Child, This One's for You, Sinatra Overture, Chicago (My Kind of Town), That's Life, When October Goes, Weekend in New England, Copacabana, I Made It Through the Rain, One Voice/I Write the Songs, Stars in the Night, Could It Be Magic?

We play this concert video when we have visitors who were born in the 70s, 60s and below. As always, it's a sure hit! My stepmom even said, "wow ang galing, sulit ang layo ng binyahe namin para manood ng concert na ito!".

About Barry Manilow

Barry was born Barry Alan Pincus in June 17, 1943 in Brooklyn, New York. He later adopted his mother's maiden name Manilow as his legal surname, thus Barry Manilow was born.

Barry Manilow began playing the piano as a young child. After graduating from high school, he was accepted as a student at the Juilliard School of Music. Following his years as a student, Barry Manilow began writing theme music for television shows and commercials. He became one of the most successful ad jingle writers. "Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there," "I am stuck on Band-Aid," and McDonald's "You deserve a break today" were among his major successes.

In 1971 Barry Manilow met Bette Midler. She hired him as her pianist, arranger, and musical director. He accompanied her as she performed and gained a strong following from men attending New York City's notorious gay bathhouses. Barry Manilow produced her first two albums and had the opportunity to introduce some of his own music at her 1972 concert at Carnegie Hall.

Tips and Benefits of Playing Tea Party

There is something magical about tea parties, whether you’re a boy or a girl, and no matter your age. Tea party has been among my favorite pastimes when I was a kid. We call it bahay-bahayan back then. With Julia, Rafael and Juan, I get to relive happy moments of my childhood.

Tea party is a very enjoyable activity that you can do with your kids any time, especially now that it’s summer. When planning a tea party, be sure to involve your child/children  in the preparation and execution of the event. Let the kids have fun by asking them which part they’d like to take part in. Let them choose - no pressure, remember  it’s a game, a play that must be enjoyed.

Julia volunteered to cook the mini pancakes

Juan chose to be the food server, while Rafael settled to be the customer

Juan even washed the dishes when we're done playing.
Benefits of Playing Tea Party:
It will serve as an excellent learning experience, tap the imagination of children, fill pleasing hours in the day, as well as bonding time between parents and children that provides loads of fun.

Tips and Health Benefits of Playing Bowling

Among the large number of sports that humans have created and played, bowling is the one closest to my heart. I remember my first encounter with this sport when I used to accompany my eldest sister.  Our parents were very strict, they did not allow my sisters to go on a date with male friends and suitors without chaperon. I'm the usual chaperon. My sister and her friends would usually spend their time at bowling lanes. I'd play with them, even if I was just a 'saling-pusa'.  From there, I learned the basic and knew that this game is for me.

When I was working with Medicard in 2001, we had a mini tournament in Marketing Department. I won the second place  and brought home a trophy which is proudly displayed at home.

I'd like my children to learn more of the sport, so John and I bring them at Fun Ranch for  some quick throw here and there.  Who knows, we might produce a future Bong Coo and Paeng Nepomuceno.

Tips and Health Benefits of Playing Bowling:

1. Warm up and stretch before bowling.  This works joints, tendons, ligaments and muscles.
2. Bowling helps promote excellent muscle exercises . Just walking around in the bowling alley, and along the lane in the process of trying to get yourself a strike or spare, you will be doing enough exercise for the muscles in your legs to get a small workout.
3. Bowling can burn off calories quickly while having fun!
As you flex your muscles with every twisting, swinging and turning motion that you perform while you are bowling you can actually find yourself burning a little bit of the excess body fat you have accumulated over the years.
4.  Bowling can help you to make new friends. There are quite a few psychologists that recommend building more friendships with dfferent people as this has been shown to improve the performance of your heart muscles and increase your longevity. If you are suffering from emotional stress then you can severely shorten your lifespan and cause harm to your body. Thus, you should build your friendships and enjoy yourself a lot.

Caribbean Urban Safari Summer Collection

Got this e-invite below from Az of  Azrael's Merryland last week.  I was hesitant to attend  for two reason. First, I thought Az invite was a mistake and was intended for another Joy Blogger. When Az confirmed this invite was meant for me, I still had reservations whether to go or not because I am a loyal client and supporter of an imported flip flop brand.

I do not know much about Caribbean Footwear so two days prior to the event I checked their FB page. I still didn't get much information except for photos of their slippers.

On the day of the event, I made sure to be an hour earlier at the venue, Red Mango in Greenbelt 3, to get the best seat as I was curious to learn more about this flip flop that is foreign to me.

I was super early at the venue so I got to interview Denise, Caribbean's Marketing Manager. I was shocked to know that Caribbean is a local brand, yes it's proudly Pinoy made! I was even more shocked at how affordable this 'tsinelas' is! Imagine spending around less than two hundred pesos for a nice pair as compared to imported brands that ranges around a thousand pesos or more! It's a plus wow that Caribbean Slippers has cute and cool designs that matches any outfit.

Other facts I've learned about Caribbean Footwear:

1. Cutting edge design supports balance and comfort
2. Finest strap as it fused elegance, creativity and durability
3. The mid-foot curve enhances posture and foot alignment
4. The sole provides ultimate protection and stability

The adage "early bird catches the worm" is so true,
because I won this great red pair of Caribbean
for being the earliest bird, err, Blogger to arrive at the venue.

Although the Marketing peeps of Caribbean told us about their flip flops durability, comfort,  etcetera, etcetera, I didn't just take their words. So, for three consecutive days, I test drive the 2 Caribbean slippers - the red pair I won as early bird and the green pair as take home goodie for Bloggers.

Day 1:
I was out of the house the whole day to cover two events, Earth Day Jam 2013 and the opening of a new store Nurture Nook. Plus, I had a date with my sister, err, daughter.

With Earth Jam performers
At Nurture Nook, checking baby products

Spa date with Julia
Day 2:
From Mandaluyong to San Juan, to Quezon City.

11am, my kids' card distribution

1pm, lunch at Vikings

2pm, SM Toon Fest Media Launch at SM The Block
8pm, indoor swimming at Ace Water Spa.
11pm, uwian na from Ace Water Spa.
 Day 3:
 Events, events!
11am, Xenical' s Rock The Fat Away at Holiday Inn, Makati
4pm, Mommy Mundo's Momtuition at Rockwell Tent

My verdict: I was able to pull it off wearing tsinelas to events, which I don't normally do. For that I  give credit to Caribbeans stylish and fashionable design. Secondly, Despite the long hours of driving and walking through all those events I went to, di nanakit ang mga paa at (maiikli) kong binti. And lastly, masasabi ko di naman pala kailangang mahal ang sapin sa paa para maging komportable ang paglalakbay.

But hey, don't take my word for it, go get yourself Caribbean's Urban Safari Summer Collection and experience the comfort I felt for the past three days.

Xenical's Rock The Fat Away Campaign

The Rock The Fat Away campaign was launched to the media last Saturday at the Holiday Inn Hotel. The event started with welcome remarks from Mr. Butch Lopez, Roche Business Unit Director. Mr. Lopez put emphasis on the risk of obesity and overweight problems in the Philippines and encouraged all attendees help spread to the public the prevention of this problem thru Rock The Fat programs and activities.

Mr. Harold Bongbong, Brand Manager of Xenical, talked about Club New You as Roche is now working hand in hand with Philippine Association for the Study of Overweight and Obesity (PASOO) to help Filipinos, young and old alike, fight and prevent obesity.

After the sumptuous lunch, guests were ushered and did Zumba. It was not in my plan to join Zumba that day because I had no sleep and it was the first day of my monthly period. But the song Rock It (Rock The Fat Away) by Bituin Escalante and Dash Calzado that was played over and over before the program started took my sleepy and ouchy feeling away so I joined in the Zuma and rocked the fat away wearing my summer dress.  I had to remove the slippers though to be able to catch up on the fast dance steps.
Without extra clothes, I look sweaty and hair messy after the Zumba but it was super worth it.
Dr. Gabriel Jasul, President of PASOO, arrived right after our Zumba session. Dr. Jasul answered some of the most frequently asked questions from Bloggers such as breastfeeding moms are not encouraged to take Xenical. I asked if I can take Xenical along with my euthyrox medicine which I take daily. Dr Jasul explained a bit about my medicine and advised me to asked my endocrinologist.

After the intimate Bloggers event, we proceeded in Glorietta where the real action is. The two-day event, hosted by Marc Nelson and Mitzi Borromeo, consists of various activities such as free body and fat analysis, free blood sugar count, photobooth, free shirts, workout session with Coach Joseph Pagulayan, food demostrations by Yellow Halo Guilt Free Kitchen, and raffle prizes.

Sugar test. I passed with just 98.

Lancel's Spring Summer 2013 Collection

Select fashion bloggers and print media previewed yesterday at Shangri-La Mall Lancel's Spring Summer 2013 collection. The styles are named L de Lancel, The Canaille and French Attitude.

Although all designs are great, my favorite among the three is the Canaille. It is a charming carry-all bag which allows any woman to bring as many items as she can. I like that it has two compartments where I can safely place my camera away from other stuff to avoid scratch. The Canaille is made of unique, exceptionally supple grained young bull leather from the plateau of Bythinia (ancient region of Turkey) in the Black Sea region. So in spite of its generous proportions, this bag is surprisingly soft and lightweight, with a wide shoulder strap for extra comfort. Canaille comes in four easy-to-wear colors of black, ivory, saffron and stone.

Canaille. French for “rogue”, Canaille (pronounced kəˈnī or “cunnigh”) is a cunning hobo that lives up to its name. Its deceptively simple silhouette belies many unconventional, discreet details: 2 hidden magnet side pockets on the outside; 2 separate spacious compartments with reverse double zips; interiors lined with luxurious microfiber suede; and a flat pocket, a phone pocket and a zipped pocket inside.

The Canaille was considerately crafted by Lancel for women who prefer such a streamlined, practical carry-all, but with little thoughtful touches that let it stand out, like the bag charm with the distinctive Lancel double L featured on the strap, the signature Lancel tassels/pompoms, or the clever reverse zippers which make the bag ergonomic for even left-handed ladies.

The L de Lancel is aptly called L, short for Elles. Elles means French women.  Lancel dedicates the L to women like this – Lancel’s heroines: Parisian icons, women of the world, women of sparkling wit. With the L, the Maison of fine leather goods – founded in 1876 – pays tribute to an attitude, to a way of being chic. The L is intended for women who are sensual without overdoing it, reserved as opposed to shy, spiritual rather than intellectual, neo-classical yet deceptively well-behaved: women who require nothing – or rather, almost nothing – to be elegant. L is simple bags with a timeless functionality. With the L, there is less decoration, fewer accessories and no jewelry. Nothing but the discrete emblem of two L-shaped metal clasps. The L is crafted in calf’s leather from the best Italian tanneries: its quality is another sign of the desire to set new standards. A movable interior pocket is part of its DNA, but it remains a secret detail, known only to the woman who wears it.For what distinguishes the L is its discretion. Like the clean lines and impeccable drape of a perfectly cut evening jacket, it is an affair of invisible details.

The small L is more compact, more insolent, yet retains all the preppy charm of its sister model. With its strap fully extended, it exudes a uniquely 1970’s style. As on the larger model, its flap has L-shaped metal clasps at each corner, subtly denoting its Lancel pedigree. With a shortened strap, the small L may be worn on the shoulder, beneath the arm.

It too contains a movable pocket, enabling essential items to be kept apart. Its workmanship and fine leathers conform to the same high standards. Like the larger model, it is lined with microsuede. The small L will also be available in precious leather versions.

The large size XL exists in a several leathers and colours. Crafted from richly textured smooth calf’s leather – processed at the finest Italian tanneries and bathed in a deep dye –the large size is graced with a timeless elegance, a style both smart and serene. The Lancel signature is suggested by the unique discretion of simple L-shaped metal clasps – a far cry from logos and monograms. It is thus in keeping with the new spirit of the Maison of fine leather goods: luxury that speaks in a whisper.

The L is a study in less-is-more, whose subtlety resides in the refinement of the work which brought it into being. Its origins lie in the understated chic of a vintage 1970’s model from the Maison’s archives. At that time, the fashion was for . It has provided Lancel with an ideal foundation to display the leather working savoir-faire, high quality leathers and purity of design which epitomize the Maison. Today, this neoclassical spirit is represented by Lancel’s new model, the L: a large size bag which encapsulates the Maison’s new direction.
The L evokes legendary Parisian figures like Anouk Aimée in Claude Lelouch’s 1966 film A Man and a Woman, or the timeless style of Jackie Kennedy. Jacqueline Bisset and Charlotte Rampling are further incarnations of the distinctly Parisian femininity to which Lancel pays homage.

If you're a woman that is into vintage look, you should get the French Attitude as it is inspired by a 1970s vintage Lancel piece, the French Attitude encapsulates the timeless elegance that defines the Maison, as well as the always alluring spirit of French style. The simple satchel from the 70s is revitalized with a touch of boho chic: smooth, eye-catching two-tone leather from a tannery in Tuscany; a unique hook clasp to secure the contents of the bag; a removable long strap for versatility and ease; and a flap in trompe l’oeil revealing meticulous craftsmanship in the saddler stitching of the seams.

In classic colors of black and pepper, the French Attitude is perfect for women on the go, who look effortlessly stylish in spite of their active lifestyles. The feisty yet refined bag evokes images of young, smart Parisiennes, whether strolling leisurely by the banks of the Seine or dashing past the shops along the Champs Elysees. This innate, carefree confidence is exactly what French Attitude is all about, and lives on in Lancel.

The Pain Behind an Imperfect Smile

$

Pain finds roots in even the most remote parts of our lives. It takes on many forms but one thing is clear. It is beyond anybody if no help comes.

Pain is behind every imperfect smile as kids with cleft lips and palates face a childhood so different from what they truly deserve.

They are taunted and teased for the way they look. They are shunned from the playground and at school. Never will they experience a normal childhood without surgical intervention. They are scarred for life. They will forever live with and imperfect smile.

Sad it may seem, there is something we can do to help these children.

Operation Smile has been helping children and young adults around the world get rid of the scars of facial deformities like a cleft palate or lip. Worldwide, it has helped 200,000 children. Operation Smile is in over 60 countries including Cambodia, China, Egypt, India, Peru, Russia, Venezuela, Vietnam and the Philippines, which is where the organization was founded 30 years ago.

In the Philippines, one in every 500 babies born every year has a cleft lip or palate. This means that 2,064 million out of the 4,004 children born every year do not have the chops to smile the way regular children could. Operation Smile healed the pain of over 24,000 kids by perfecting their smiles.
Perfecting the smile involves not only the surgical intervention to repair the cleft lip and palate. To perfect the smile, the healing must be taken a step further by erasing the marks or scars from surgery with innovative products like Dermatix Ultra.

Dermatix Ultra is the scar expert formulated with innovative CPX (cyclopentasiloane) technology, which can flatten and soften scars while providing Vitamin C for photoprotection and skin lightening.

Dermatix is the scar formula recommended by plastic surgeons. It is easy to apply and is safe to use even for children. It also has excellent cosmetic properties that lighten the scar and make it smooth.
So there is hope. With partnerships like Operation Smile Philippines and Dermatix Ultra, pain like theirs can be erased. Together, the scars left by a cleft lip or palate will be a thing of the past.

A Caravan of Hope: World Glaucoma Week 2013

Glaucoma is slowly blinding Filipinos everyday and it’s not leaving without pain or duress. With World Glaucoma Week coming in, the time is right for doctors and patients alike to fight the disease.

The Philippine Glaucoma Society (PGS) is bringing in the best activities and events to the Filipinos as it sparks the beginning of a world without Glaucoma.

“Glaucoma is a grave condition that requires everyone’s attention. World Glaucoma Week is just the beginning of a series of events that we hope will spread awareness to all Filipinos nationwide that early detection is the only way to stop Glaucoma in its tracks. The way to the light begins today,” said PGS president, Dr. Jose Ma. Martinez.

Glaucoma is an eye disease that gradually steals vision. It damages the optic nerve, which is the nerve that delivers information from the eye to the brain. Damage to the optic nerve shrinks the visual field and eventually causes blindness. In some cases of glaucoma, patients experience eye pain, blurred vision, eye redness, headache, vomiting and seeing rainbows around the eyes.

It shows no symptoms and comes without a warning, which is why PGS advocates for the early detection of glaucoma in patients.

Glaucoma can come at any age but is mostly inherent in older in the elderly. Those with eye pressure, family history of glaucoma, age beyond 45, previous eye injury, chronic steroid use, diabetes mellitus, and Asian descent are the risks factors that increases the chances of a patient in developing glaucoma.

The Philippine Glaucoma Society is slating surgical caravans, Facebook photo contests, mall events, and sponsorships of glaucoma procedures and surgeries in indigent patients nationwide. The surgeries will be held simultaneously in Manila, Davao, and Cebu.

PGS is conducting these events in light of the need to spread awareness of a disease that has been plaguing the Filipinos for years. The PGS is aware that to get rid of Glaucoma forever, it must be at the forefront of teaching people about it. The PGS Foundation will work hand-in-hand with government hospitals and private organizations.

We look forward to seeing the future without Glaucoma darkening our lives. It begins now in World Glaucoma Week,” said Dr. Jose Ma. Martinez.

Last week, with Hershey's invite, I went at URBN Bar and Kitchen at the Fort without really knowing what the event was all about. I thought it was for a food review. The event was actually Timeframe Productions and Media Ventures Incorporated Anniversary.

Hosted by Karylle, with overflowing drinks and finger food, the event was a huge success as Timeframe's clients, friends and media trooped at URBN to celebrate their years of success.

About Timeframe

Timeframe Media Company was officially established in 2002 by RJ Samson, a graduate from Ateneo de Manila University, who dove head first into then growing audio-video production industry. It humbly found its base in Katipunan Road in Quezon City, offering its video editing services to students. However, it dreamt more than its means and delivered beyond its capabilities, extending its services to companies such as San Miguel Corporation.

With its entry into the corporate world, Timeframe Media continued to push the envelope challenging itself constantly and surprising its clients with the product the company puts out. The company pioneered the same-day edit video, now a standard in the industry. Timeframe staff created AVPs from bulky desktop systems brought around during events.

Never content, Timeframe Media began to upgrade its skills to produce stunning designs on print media in 2005. This spawned a new level of creativity and opened new opportunities for the company. The biggest opportunity came in 2006, Timeframe made its mark on the events industry with Universal Robina Corporation’s Jack ‘n Jill brand. With the success of its first event, it continued to produce massive events – from product launches, conferences, teambuilding sessions, concerts, exhibits and parties.

The next four years saw the greatest development of the company. Doubling its growth from 2008 until 2011. Timeframe Media focused on markets outside its home country, producing corporate videos for global companies. Then in 2009, Timeframe Media dared to invade the entire country with a massive brand activation operation for Anlene. Timeframe built a robust in-house machinery that has converted over 1.5 million Filipino adults to become milk drinkers and fight osteoporosis every day for four years running. Soon afterwards, the success of the Anlene Bone Health Check encouraged Timeframe to open up its activation services to more companies, from the beauty industry to other consumer goods.

Still Timeframe won’t stop evolving; it continues to clear the bar it has set for itself. And now, with renewed energy in 2013, the company enters a new phase as Timeframe Productions and Media Ventures Incorporated. Now armed with the vision of being a leading below the line agency, Timeframe Productions and Media Ventures Inc. provides innovative and excellent services in audio-video production, events, activation and digital services for their trusted partners in the Philippines and Asia. It has changed its face but at the core it is still the agency that delivers quality service beyond their client’s expectations, WHATEVER IT TAKES.

Fun Poly Dots

I found this alternative toy at Mommy Mundo's Kid Expo, the Fun Poly Dots. It's a lot like clay but mostly reminds me of Dippin' Dots ice cream for its foam dots. It comes it different colors but I just got the pink to try first if Julia, Rafael and Juan will like it.

This is also an excellent stress reliever, much like the stress ball, for adults. I sure had fun, doing the heart shape...

My creation
Fun Poly Dots is lightweight, colorful foam-sculpting material that won't crumble, stick to skin or surfaces or dry out.

Fun Poly Dots is kid-friendly as it is NON-TOXIC, NON-ALLERGENIC, contains no gluten, proteins, organic materials or other allergens, contains no phthalates, contains no latex, conforms to ASTM D 4236, contains no hazardous or toxic substances

Fun Poly Dots entertained us  for hours so the television, laptops and other gadgets were set aside. Thank goodness for toys like this that provides creativity and imagination.
