Lancel Love for Mother's Day

$

0

For this coming Mother’s Day, Lancel is offering a 30% discount on all regular items from the Brigitte Bardot and Daligramme collections, from May 1-15 only. This is the perfect opportunity to give Mom a bag she will surely treasure. Avail of this limited offer at the Lancel boutique on the second floor of Shangri-la Plaza.

Like sultry screen siren Brigitte Bardot, the BB bucket bag is a head-turner with its voluptuous silhouette, intricate details, and fine organic material. Bardot’s beauty, her joie de vivre and her femininity are exquisitely encapsulated in Lancel’s homage to the French femme fatale. The BB bag comes in fun colors and unique fabrics, and is an exceptional eco-chic gift for the bohemian mom who shares Brigitte Bardot’s spirit and style.

Lancel’s Daligramme line was created in collaboration with the Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí, based on the “alphabet of love” the brilliant Spanish painter invented for the love of his life, his wife Gala. No mere monogram, the Daligramme is a secret script that is a declaration of love. Art, romance and fashion come together in this collection, which features a variety of versatile bag shapes and styles, such as the Dalifun shopper, the Dalichic shoulder bag, the Daliglam clutch, and the Daligala bucket bag. Mothers who are romantics at heart or appreciate great works of art would surely love to have their own Daligramme masterpiece.

Mag-ingat sa Pinakurat

I like sour food. Name it - kalamansi, mangga, lemon, suha, pati na ang suka! I do not know if it has something to do with what my mother liked to eat (hilaw na mangga't bagoong) when she was pregnant with me.

One time Arnold and Honey visited us here at home. Arnold insisted that I try this Suka Pinakurat. I begged off but Arnold even opened the bag of fish cracker they brought.

From then on, I fell for this vinegar. Ngunit mag-ingat sa Pinakurat, with its right blend of spicy and sour taste, naku tiyak mapapadami ang kain mo ng kanin kasama ang pork or chicken barbeque!

I have always been fascinated with the art of tattoo. Though I do not own one, I admire those who go through the process of turning their body into a walking piece of art.

Featuring today the first of the many series of Tattoo Talk.

Meet friends  Rachel Bautista and Issy Cruz. I met these young and beautiful ladies in Market Market while buying Krokketen.

Rachel's tattoo at the back is a colorful owl.
tattoo on her right arm, well I actually forgot to ask her.

Issy's tattoo speaks about love, love, love. At her back, Issy with wings.

"I was influenced by my brother to get one and then I got hooked.
My tattoos are about phrases that I live by"

Mezza Norte Now Open in Trinoma

Mezza Norte, a food and lifestyle night market, is now open from 4:00pm to 3:00am every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It is strategically located at Trinoma’s Mindanao open parking at the corner of Mindanao Avenue and North Avenue to best serve Northern Manila’s food enthusiasts.

RJ Ledesma, co-founder of the Mercato Centrale Group, graced the opening of Mezza Norte. “We were inspired by the vibrant night food markets of our Asian neighbors like Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong and Taiwan. They are not only destination markets but tourist attractions as well. Thus, we wanted to bring that exciting ‘street food’ vibe and culture to the Philippines, and give it a uniquely Pinoy spin.” said Ledesma. RJ added, "All food vendors undergo a taste test by the Mercato Centrale Group.  Vendors are chosen based on flavour, innovation and uniqueness."

The Mercato Centrale Group is the events team behind Metro Manila’s most happening night weekend markets that include Midnight Mercato in Bonifacio Global City and Cucina Andare at Glorietta Park in Makati.

Mezza Norte features the well-known and popular Mercato Centrale suki vendors as well as the best in homemade dishes from the kitchens of Quezon City.  Try unique, mouth-watering and affordable goodies which include grilled foods, Pinoy street foods, sandwiches, burgers, rice meals, fruit shakes, dimsums, kebabs, tacos, ice creams, cakes, pastries and a whole lot more.

My personal favorites among the many vendors:

Disney's First Little Princess - Sofia The First

Eastwood in Libis is one of those places I don't frequent because it's far from where I live. Plus, the traffic is that bad! Movie watching in Libis, in particular, have never happened in the past for my family. But you see, anything that makes my princess Julia happy makes me happy. Julia like princesses movies. She even collects princesses books and magazines, so off we went earlier today at Cinema 7 of Eastwood Mall to watch the media premiere of Sofia the First: Once Upon A Princess.

"Sofia the First: Once Upon A Princess," is an enchanting, music-filled animated Disney Junior television movie for the whole family, that will be shown on Sunday, May 19 at 11.00am on Disney Channel and Monday, May 27 at 1.00pm on Disney Junior.  A "Sofia the First" television series will premiere in July 2013.

What to expect? Cinderella makes  a special appearance. All-star voice cast includes Ariel Winter, Sara Ramirez, Wayne Brady and Tim Gunn. The stories of "Sofia the First" communicate positive messages and life lessons that are applicable to young children.

Synopsis:
Set in the storybook world of Enchancia, the movie introduces Sofia, an average girl whose life suddenly transforms when her mother marries the king and she becomes a princess, Sofia the First. Sofia must learn to navigate the extraordinary life of royalty while holding on to her own hopes and dreams. Her journey to being the best she can be also paves the way for those around her to realize how special they each are.  Disney's Cinderella makes an appearance in the movie to offer Sofia some words of wisdom – princess to princess. Sofia's royal adventure begins as she prepares to move into the castle with her mom, starting a new family with her step-father, King Roland II, and step-siblings, Amber and James. Helping Sofia in her journey are the three headmistresses of Royal Prep Academy - Fauna, Flora and Merryweather (the beloved fairies seen in Disney's classic "Sleeping Beauty") and royal steward, Baileywick, as well as a group of cute woodland creatures led by a wise-talking rabbit, Clover. Sofia soon discovers that looking like a princess isn't all that difficult, but displaying honesty, loyalty, courage, independence, compassion and grace is what makes one truly royal.

Alongside the debut of "Sofia the First: Once Upon A Princess", Disney Channel and Disney Junior will launch the DisneyChannel-asia.com and DisneyJunior-Asia.com/Sofia website featuring a fully immersive royal experience. Kids can get creative, creating and personalizing their own prince or princess avatars with the Royal Me game, dressing up Sofia’s room or just having fun with the many activity pages and videos available on the site.

Cure for Pain According to Laida's Mother

$

As I've mentioned in the past, I am not a fan of John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo but I like watching their movies, be they together or not. Syempre pa, I watched their latest movie, It Takes A Man and A Woman. Umabot pa kami ni Julia at Newport Cinema last 2 weeks ago after covering Manila Millions Poker at Resorts World.

I like the movie from start to end. It was well-written and directed. Sana lang naman inayos ang wig na pinagamit kay Sarah. She has great locks e bakit nagkagay-on (ika nga ng mga Batangenyo at Batangenya kong mga kaibigan).

There were many quotable quotes in the movie but the line of Laida's mother made me cry..."Love is a choice. Ganun din ang pagpapatawad. Pipiliin mo rin yun, araw-araw".  This line brought back memories of friends I cared for and loved but in the end hurt me.  I was waiting for them to reach out but instead hit me in FB and txtd me hurtful words. Pero gan-on (ika nga ulit ng mga Batangenyo at Batangenya kong mga kaibigan) talaga yun,  once you open your heart to people it is inevitable na masaktan ka. At totoo pala ang sinabi ni Nora, na pag natanda na ang tao, mas nagiging pasensyosa at mapagpatawad na. Kasi if I was any younger, sa ginawa sa akin e baka nanabunot na ako. But then again, I chose to keep quiet and forgive.

Kaya tama nga ang nanay ni Laida, the cure for pain is forgiveness...kahit hindi hiningi, hinihingi at hihingiin, ibigay mo for life goes on better, lighter and happier when you learn how to forgive.

You know the sign when one is aging?  The person tends to be forgetful. My friend Brook calls it SOA.  Well, I know John and I are candidates of SOA. Here's why:

John: Babe, what was that song that you really like?
Me: Which song?
John: The song that you always tell me to record.
Me: Which song?
John: That song that this guy sang.
Me: What song? Who sang it?
John: That song...Arnel Pineda sang it, ahh, from Journey.
Me: Ah, that song that Jovit something from that Talent show.
John: What's the title of that song?
Me: Can't remember...hmmm, ahh I know na, Highway Run.
John: (googled) It's not  Highway Run, it's Faithfully Babe!

(Ay naku, ang hirap ng tumatanda! Natawa na lang kami pareho)

Revitalizing Stay at Segara Suites

We've been to many hotels and resorts in Subic. I thought I've seen them all, from the least to the best, until the Agulto Family brought us in Segara Suites.  Segara has actually two types of accommodation, Segara Villas and Segara Suites, both are located at Waterfront Road, Subic Bay, Freeport Zone. We stayed in Segara Suites which has 18 spacious rooms.

What made our stay memorable? We were able to really have that relaxing stay. I was actually almost down with fever but because I got to sleep soundly, I was up and running again the next morning. Secondly, friendly services from the staff of Segara. And last but certainly not the least, Julia, Rafael and Juan had fun time bonding and playing with Matt and Yahre.

Spend more time with your family and friends at Segara. You'll surely feel revitalize the next day or maybe just after a few hours of that power nap that your body needs.

I brought Julia, Rafael and Juan two days ago for eye check-up in VRPMC formerly Polymedic. We went to Dr. Mallari at Room 220 upon the recommendation of my kids pediatrician, Dr. Milagros Leyva.

Though I'm happy that Rafael still has 25/25 vision, I'm sad that Julia and Juan must wear prescription glasses. Julia has 150/150 vision with astigmatism, while Juan at 75/75 vision with astigmatism.

It's good that Firmoo offers great style prescription glasses that my kids and I can wear.

Meet my friendly neighborhood Kuya Magbubuko, Manuelito Elacion Dublon, Nognog for short.   Most of the time it's my husband who buys from Kuya Nognog. But today, I made sure I get to interview him and take some photos.

Nognog is the youngest among 11 children. He is married with 2 kids, ages 2 years old and 1 year old. He buys the buko at P18.50 and sells it at P25.00. He earns around P500  on a good day, "walang uulan", he said. The husks are given to barangay to be made into fertilizer.

Ang sarap makipag kwentuhan sa bawat tao because I get to learn many things in life. A lot of people take many things for granted but not Kuya Nognog. He is a man that sees the positive in life, read why...

Australian Education Exhibition 2013

$

Australia is highlighted once more as among the world’s best education destinations in the next education fair organized by IDP Education Philippines this month.

The Australian Education Exhibition 2013 will be held at the Marco Polo Hotel in Davao on Friday, May 17.  It moves to the Dusit Thani Makati the following day, culminating with its Cebu staging at the Radisson Blu Hotel Cebu on Sunday, May 19.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s Institute of Statistics reports that Australia ranks among the top five destinations for tertiary education among the world’s mobile students.  In 2010, it received 17% of the total number of students hosted in the East Asia and Pacific countries, second only to the United States.

From July 2011 to June 2012, there were 2,633 Filipino students who went to Australia to study, making it the Number 1 study destination of Filipinos.

Students prefer to go to Australia for diploma, certificate, training and further education (TAFE) because the country offers many benefits, foremost of which are internationally recognized qualifications, part-time work opportunities and higher post-graduation employability potential.
Changes were made in March to the Temporary Graduate visa allowing recent graduates the opportunity to spend more time in Australia (to gain practical experience) following completion of their bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degrees.

As it continues to host students from different cultures, Australia is also able to offer an increasingly diversified cultural environment.  Graduates then have the advantage of being exposed to a variety of cultures and building an international network of contacts which they can tap into once they enter the workplace.

IDP Education Pty. Ltd. is the world authority in Australian education being 50% owned by 38 Australian universities.  It is the world’s largest student placement and English language testing services provider.

IDP Philippines opened in 1996 and has since provided free admissions and visa counselling to place thousands of students in colleges and universities in Australia, the US, UK, New Zealand and Canada. The annual Australian Education Exhibition brings representatives of Australian universities and TAFE colleges to the Philippines for direct consultations and admissions facilitation and is considered the best means for students to consider available education options, providing information on courses and programs, admissions requirements, costs and living arrangements.

Filipinos are on the brink of becoming a significant player in the international market. The deployment of the young abroad to achieve not only a better understanding of other people but also advanced systems can only enhance the advantages they now have. There is no block or hindrance to achieving international recognition except for the reluctance to try. Filipinos, forge ahead!

Pre-registration is required for the seminars.  Register online at idpdavao.eventzilla.net, idpmanila.eventzilla.net or idpcebu.eventzilla.net.  Like IDP Philippines on facebook or call 236-2758 for daily updates and promo information.

Each and every visit to Dive and Trek is an awesome experience. We've been there many times in the past, bringing different sets of friends.  We stopped visiting the place in 2003. Why? Well, not because we got used to the place, it's just that we explored other places. Plus, each visit makes me sad somehow because the friends we brought there are now living in different parts of the world. My cousins Dondee and Chel are now based in London, Shiloh and Liza are in New Jersey, Jane in Nebraska.

My husband love snorkeling at Dive and Trek, so after ten years off we went on a spontaneous trip yesterday. Buti na lang mabait ang mga taga Dive and Trek, we were accommodated for a day trip/tour even for a short notice. A day tour is P1,300 per person, which includes boat transfers, welcome drinks, buffet lunch, and afternoon snack. Kids below 11 years old have 20% discount. Snorkeling gears are for rent. If you own gears, feel free to bring.

From afar, while riding the boat, we noticed the big development of the place. Although still serene, the place look more cozy than it used to be.

Alighting from the boat, we were welcomed by the usual warm faces along from Dive and Trek crew and staff, with two new additional friendly furry faces, namely Max and Bogart More stories about Max and Bogart in my next post).

We were offered welcome drinks as soon as we settled, with choice of coffee, juice and tea.
Juancho settled for Milo, over and over again!

Buffet lunch was a feast with fried chicken, soup, kilawing isda, grilled liempo,
vegetable salad and watermelon for dessert

We met Exhertier family from France. Our kababayan Jessica, along with her husband Pierre and son Julian was here for a vacation. It's their first time in Dive and Trek. Pierre liked that there are a lot of fish compared to another diving site they went to in the past. We exchanged stories and even had fun doing Pinoy tongue twister "nakapagpapabagabag" over lunch.

We hit the road at 4:30am, we arrived around 7am because we got lost. If you wish to visit Dive and Trek I suggest you be at the place at 6am or earlier so you can catch the beautiful sunrise and do snorkeling longer. At P1,300 sobrang sulit ang trip dito. Imagine finding nemo and touching this popular fish...Nora, John and I took a lot of photos to cover the great day, I had to compress everything for this video...Have fun watching but better if you'll experience the same at Dive and Trek...

Mom's are called in different ways - mother, mama, mudra, inay, nanay, mama, mamang, when all it means is LOVE.

To all the wonderful MOTHERS, isang MALIGAYANG ARAW NATIN!

And because this is a special day for wonderMOMS, why not give them a special gift? What do most moms use, lalo na ang mga nanay na nasa bahay? Syempre pa tsinelas! Tsinelas is now commonly called flipflops (para sosing pakinggan). Try Caribbean Slippers, it's affordable and yet classy.

If I were to star in my own movie I will be me - an ordinary woman, wife and mom but with super powers to wipe out corrupt politicians. I'm not going to kill them but my powers will make them grow a conscience.  Every time they make false promises, they'd do in a snap. I thought of that plot since today is Mother's Day and tomorrow is Election Day.

The World We Want is a project of the United Nations. Like any developmental org, the UN has a bunch of goals that they have set for a certain period, and the current set of goals will be reached in 2015. They are beginning to draft their plans for 2015 onward, and they want input from people worldwide.

I just did my part in helping shape the kind of world I want to live in. How about you? Share your thoughts and vote on what you think are the six most pressing issues that the world is facing.

Fila is one of the largest sportswear manufacturer all over the world starting in 1911. Fila started in the Philippines in 1983 under the power couple Butch and Cris Albert. I am proud to say that  I used   to be a Fila employee in 1987 as HR Assistant.

When the invite  to cover Filapinas  came I didn't bother to think twice since I'd like to see  first and foremost my former boss, Cris Albert   Secondly to learn more about what rugby sport is. Last but not the least, to take a good look at the good-looking and muscled men of  Philippine Volcanoes.

Fila Philippines is the official sponsor of the Philippine Volcanoes to the 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens in Moscow. Pride burns deep as we got to meet and interview the team members of The Philippine Volcanoes last week at Cocoon Boutique Hotel in Quezon City.

The Philippine National Rugby Union Team is nicknamed "Volcanoes" to represent their burning passion and pride to represent the country in the World Cup. Today, the Volcanoes are the most successful team in the Asian Five Nations Tournaments, next o Japan.

Among the Volcanoes, Andrew Wolff was the busiest during the interview. Well, of course he used to be a showbiz personality. In fairness to Andrew, he was very accommodating with all the questions and photo ops.
